Yoga lying knees to chest pose

Deeply relax by lying down and bringing knees to chest.

Many people like myself have experienced some type of past trauma in life. These traumas we can subconsciously hold in our mind and body as resistance can cause many symptoms such as emotional imbalances, feelings of being stuck, tiredness, anxiety, or even tightness.

Yoga is a very powerful tool to help release toxic energy from our bodies and mind and create balance, strength, and harmony.

How do you Heal with Yoga?

Yoga is a mind-body connection, which is the first step to becoming more aware and awake to what is happening in your body and mind and around you. You will learn to really feel and look inward. When you practice restorative or Yin yoga postures, you hold longer and connect inwards more with breath, body, and mind.

Yoga helps the body and mind to let go of resistance, not just physically, but also emotionally. We build up resistance from our past stresses and traumas on a subconscious level to protect ourselves. Your body and mind tighten and only through awareness and breathing can you release. Some people will need extra help through professional counseling to help release past traumas.

Yoga also teaches us Áhimsa”, which is non-violence. You learn not to be so hard on yourself, through your actions, thoughts, and words you speak. Learn to do more things that nourish your mind-body, like yoga and meditation.

Which Yoga is Best for Healing?

Your age and experience can help you decide the first steps in choosing the best yoga for you. If you are a beginner, senior, or have physical limitations, then I would recommend a Restorative Yoga class. In these slow and gentle yoga classes, you hold the poses for longer and use props like blankets for support and comfort. Even if you are an experienced Yogi, you can still highly benefit from a restorative or Yin Yoga class. Heart-opening yoga poses are great for releasing old emotions and fears.

Don’t forget food plays a huge role in the healing process for the body and mind. Eat more green leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds, citrus fruits, and berries.
