Move Safely with Kevala Health Yoga, Pilates & Fitness

Welcome to our classes in a unique historical church hall on Russell Island—a bright, light, and spacious space designed to help you feel comfortable from the moment you arrive. Our community is friendly, supportive, and focused on helping you move safely and consistently.

Before You Join: Waiver & Health Release

For all new students, you’ll be asked to sign a Waiver / Health Release Form prior to attending class. This helps us understand your needs and ensures you’re aware of safety expectations and guidelines.

Injury / Medical Disclaimer (Please read)

Yoga, Pilates, and fitness classes involve physical movement. While we provide instruction and modifications, our classes are not a substitute for medical advice.

If you have any injuries, medical conditions, pain, or limitations—especially knee, shoulder, or back concerns—please consult a qualified healthcare professional before participating. During class, your instructor can offer options and modifications, but you should never push through sharp pain or worsening symptoms.

In class rule: Rest anytime, work within your comfort level, and ask for a modification at any point.

Beginner-Friendly Modifications (In Every Class)

We include modifications for everyone—especially helpful if you’re new, returning to fitness, or managing joint sensitivity.

Expect options such as:

• Chair-supported variations for stability and lower impact

• Props to assist alignment and comfort

• Reduced range-of-motion options

• Alternative exercises when a movement doesn’t feel right

Our goal is not to “do it harder”—it’s to do it safely and effectively.

Options for Knee, Shoulder & Back Issues

If you have limitations related to knees, shoulders, or your back, we can guide you toward safer variations, such as:

  • Changing stance width or foot position for knee comfort.

  • Using cushions or blankets under knees for comfort.

  • Adjusting arm placement and shoulder range of motion. Or limit taking arms overhead if uncomfortable.

  • Using supportive angles and avoiding strain-based movements for back comfort.

  • Using pillows under head to support neck and shoulders.

You’ll be encouraged to use chairs or a wall for balance and props and to take breaks whenever you need.

Expert Guidance from Jodie

Jodie has been teaching for over 20 years and understands what people over 40 and over 50 typically need most—safe progressions, joint-friendly cues, and confidence-building modifications that feel supportive, not restrictive.

What You’ll Find in the Church Hall (Comfort & Practical Needs)

We want the space to support you as you relax, hydrate, and get ready:

• Bright, light, spacious hall for easy movement

• Water & glasses available in the kitchen at the back

• Toilet downstairs

• A welcoming, community-focused atmosphere

If you need a short break to adjust, hydrate, or rest, you’re welcome to do so—resting is part of training.

“When to Stop” (Safety Reminder)

Please stop and notify your instructor if you experience:

• Sharp or severe pain

• Dizziness, numbness, or tingling

• Pain that worsens as you move

Then adjust or take a rest. Your instructor can help you find a safer option.

“How to let us know before class” (e.g., arrive early, tell your instructor at the start)

“First-time student support” (e.g., we’ll help you set up chair/props)

“Modifications are encouraged for everyone” (not only those with injuries)
